I just quit smoking yesterday. For real this time. I'm done, done, done. I AM A NON-SMOKER. I just hope it's not too late. I don't have health insurance. If I get cancer, I'm done. Good thing you've got insurance, Dean.
on top of the smoking cigarettes for most of my adult life, I was raised in a beach town, I've been in the sun all my life. Never used sunscreen. I'm a welder, so, on top of breathing in fumes from burning steel and aluminum, my skin gets exposed to the ultraviolet welding flash every day.
On the positive side, I rarely eat processed junk food.
Like that's really gonna make a difference.
I'm rooting for you, brotha Dean.
And crossing my fingers for myself at the same time.
Dang SPD,
I pop in to spy on everyone and find this. Prayers sent, and prayers work. You are someone that has left an incredible impression on me and my ongoing recovery. You are also in my families prayers. Keep us updated.
Tom

You're always in my prayers StDean. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Baba Louie, I'll add you to my prayers. Scary stuff, I do know. I used an electronic cigarette to quit. It worked quickly and easily for both myself and my mom. Amazing gadget! Best wishes!

Home again from second surgery, which involved the robotic surgery to remove a tumor off the back of my tongue. The surgery went better than expected, got it all plus required margain with room to spare. They sent me home with a feeding down that runs down my nose, for a week. Swallowing and talking is nearly impossible. One day at a time, I'll be on my way to eating again and have this tube removed. Very grateful for all that has happened, finding the surgeon, being a candidate for the surgery, making through both surgeries, wonderful wife helping me through..... and to my extended family here, thank you mucho for your love and support.
All my friends and family wouldve told the doctor to remove my whole tongue. "And while Yer in there, can you remove his vocal chords, too? Doc, you gotta do something to help us shut him up".
Ditto what Baba said ... LOL, yep they'd have wanted the 'peace and quiet' cause I always got something to say, LOL ...
Dean, I cannot imagine how it must feel to have your tongue worked on surgically ... oh man, that hurts just think'n 'bout it ... you are so right, the only way I got through my treatments was 'One Day at a Time' ...
Hurry up and get well my friend ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy

Rough night last night. I can't take any more of these pain meds. Switching to tylenol this morning. Prayers, kind thoughts, positive mojo appreciated.
StPeteDean, lots of prayers for a speedy recovery. Healing time is now! Modern medicine plus a healing touch from the Higher Power can accomplish amazing things. If it were possible for me to take your pain for awhile and give you a break, I'd gladly do it...but I'm still praying for ya! Stay strong, my friend!

Prayers with you my brother ... I just recently got off the morphine, on my own, and am tell'n the Doc tomorrow, let's get off the hydros ... man, those things are lethal ... (I'd have gone 'bat-shit' crazy with pain without them) ...

hydors for a week after the neck surgery got to me. I did make it 4 days on the Oxycodone. Last night I refused to take any more. Starting to get my mind back
Yep, know the feel'n ... as an alcoholic, we certainly know the dangers of these drugs, and they damn sure ain't for pleasure ... the docs prescribed them for a reason ... and we know when it's time to get rid of them ... my heart goes out to you Dean for what you are having to go through now ... we both know, 'this to shall pass' ...
God Bless, Pappy

Yeah Dean, ... Advil is what my Doc recommends when that is sufficient enough ... that's what I use most the time ... that or the generic Ibprophen ...
Can you swallow yet??? ... I know you drink mostly Tea, but I think of you every morn'n when I'm drink'n my coffee ... and then to think how much I am grateful to be able to 'taste' food while you got that frick'n tube down your nose ... my dad went through that for a year ... one day he told the Doc I had enough and started eating last week, then he got better and the Doc said 'you're amazing', we might as well pull the tube(actually, I think they had his surgically installed)(I remember put'n a bag of somethin on the pole and hook'n it to a tube come'n out his side ...) ... long story, but it was torture for him to smell food cooking knowing he couldn't have any ...
My heart truly goes out to you ... just a few more days, huh? ... hang in there Buddy ...

Hey SPD,
How are things today? I know coming off the pain meds left me DARK for a few days. Hopefully you are past that! Anyhow prayers continue........

Hey Guys, feeling much better. Got the feeding tube out last thursday and have been progressing nicely since then. Gained 7 lbs. Went to the gym today.
Pathology report was clean, next Dr. apt. in mid Jan.
Yeah Dean ... I had to keep in mind just what the ALTERNATIVE was, LOL ... not a pleasant thought either ... I'm elated that you're do'n so well ... and I can't help but think what a pain in the butt it is to not eat, or even 'talk' without pain and suffering ...
You, my friend and brother, are an inspiration to me and others just show'n us 'it can be done' without give'n in to our addiction ...
Love ya man and God Bless, Pappy

Things are going well. Ski season is here and I'm in Park City for the week. Haven't lost a step, although my aerobic capacity needs a little work. . Did 3 days of acupuncture on my neck to stimulate the nerve endings cut during my neck surgery. about half of the right side of the skin on my neck is without feeling to the touch. Doc said 6 months to a year on that one, then it is what it is. So I'm trying whatever I can to move it along. Other than that feeling pretty normal. Getting used to the 8" scar on my neck from my ear to my adams apple. I guess I'll be a pirate this year for Halloween :P Thanks for the prayers, well wishes, and positive mojo.
