Nothing is troublesome that we do willingly. --Thomas Jefferson
Some of the necessary things we do are tiring and annoying. Many of these things we must do regardless of how we feel about them. Doing dishes day after day can be a tiresome job, but no matter how much we hate it, it must be done sooner or later. We might discover, if we look hard enough, how chores like this can actually be enjoyable, if we do them right. Perhaps dish washing is a time for listening to music and singing along, or an opportunity for conversation between family members as we help one another.
Our willingness to look for the hidden treasure and opportunities in tasks we might otherwise consider dreary will never fail to reward us.
That is a great one. It was only a few weeks ago, when I was performing a task that I do not care for (filling up dishwasher, and cleaning out refrigerator, and making the kitchen look good)
I said to myself, in the middle of this Project, pertend that this is one of your favorite things to do. And I did. Funny how it all went pretty fast, and really had some fun, completed all of it.
Amazing, Just change you attitude, and watch things change for the better!
More great stuff. I need to use all of this advice right now and in the future. If I face my current difficulty with this willingness I know it will be an easier task. Thanks for this! -Paul
Thanks for the great memories this quote brought me. When I was a kid my chore after school was to help with dinner, set the table, make a salad, etc. I loved my chore! It was the only time I could guarantee one on one time with my Mom, as I was the oldest of 5. She was a pretty busy lady and that was a special time just for the two of us.
I have always played "head games" with myself to do my chores. When I was young and had to clean my room I would pretend the Queen of England was coming to visit, and she would look in my room and maybe my closet and drawers and I would just clean, clean, clean!! Made it go so fast, and I did a good job, too. Looking back that is pretty funny for a little kid in the middle of Oregon.
I still play my head games, I still pretend someone is coming over, have given up on the Queen, but a special friend or my kids will do.
You'all probably think I am very strange, but I don't mind, it works for me, and being strange is not new to me.
Thanks for the good memories, and allowing me to share.
