The most useless day of all is that in which we have not laughed.
--Sebastian R. N. Champort

We are told that laughter is sunshine filling a room. And where there is laughter, there also is life. They say that people who laugh a lot live longer than do the sour-faced. When we laugh together, gratitude comes more easily, companionship thrives, and all praise is sincere. Laughter brings us joy that cannot be bought. Such joy is with us throughout each day. To hoard joy, to hide it away deep within us away from others, will make us lonely misers. We cannot buy or trade for joy, but we can give or receive it as a gift.

Laughter's joy celebrates the moment we are living right now. It is a gift we must share, or it will wither and die. Shared, it grows and thrives, and always returns to us when we need it most.

What can I find to laugh about right now?

wow..  I really needed to see this one. joy and laughter were big issues in my family,, and are still with me. We couldn't have joy, and rarely laughed an easy laugh.

Feeling like everything was my fault I felt guilty if I felt happy. And I was so angry at the others I didn't want them to be happy. It was a realy bummer. Another thing I've been working verrrry hard on. The Bible says, in Phil 4:4, 'Rejoice, and again I say rejoice'.  This is relevant to my Higher Power, and it is strongly through the New Testament that God wants our 'joy to be complete'.

It is part of our recovery journey to let ourselves be joyous, and to let other people be joyous too.

*smiles shyly*

love in recovery,

amanda

Hi Rick,

Here's a good one,  many years ago, when I was either drunk, coming too, or going under, and that feeling of living more the life of an animal, needing that Alcohol, well sometimes, when I was approaching a store to buy Alcohol, and I would see the sign "No Dogs Allowed" it use to creep me out, because I knew that Drinking was no longer something I had a choice in, but something I had to do everyday. Kind of like those experiments they do with mice and rats, they give them a choice of food or Heroin, and the animals will never go for the food, they will go for the heroin, until they are dead.

Well I go to a noon meeting during the week, and it is on Church Grounds, and they go over some things,  No Cell Phones, No Smoking anywhere on the Premises, and No Dogs Allowed.

It always make me chuckle a little, because I can hear the term, No Dogs Allowed, and laugh on the inside, that this ravanious Alcoholic does not drink today  and that I do have a choice today, so when someone is talking about the Dogs not be allowed on the Premises, they are not talking about me.

HA HA,  Sick humor maybe, but it is ,  still funny to me.

I have a Higher Power in my life today, a loving God, that pulled this Drunk up and out of that gutter of despair.

A big Hug, Toni
