I love to talk to all you US guys please let me know all about how it is where you live - England is so boaring!!! I would love to visit the states sometime let me know what it is like - are the meetings good? (the most we ever have in a meeting is 20 and that is on an exceptional day!!) I love to talk to you all keeps me sober!!!!

Im in Ontario Canada ....not boring here...4 seasons consisting of Hot...Cool..Cold..and Warmer..
Meetings are every night..but hafta travel some...and ftf meetings are bout the same...anywhere from 15 to 30...unless a speaker meeting..and those can go up tp 80-100
These people from the USA are kinda weird eh? Theyve got a language ...all of their own...
I have a hell of a time..understanding them .....but they are all lovable..hahaha..
Gonna get one of those T-shirts next time Im down..that says "Im from Cana..DU..dont shoot.."

I live in a rural area. 20 is a good meeting number. Sometimes only 5 and up to 100 for a anniversary. I guess only the big cites have large meetings.
I usually drive about 20 miles to a meeting. There are 2 about 10 min away, but i rarely go.
I guess the real truth is I'm probably a little resentful. I need to work on this. Finger pointing and this is what u have to do lingers in this alky's head.
On the bright side**live outside a small villiage with 115 acres of land. Private and quiet most of ths time. We have a lake a few minutes away and we all have places for access.

Guess we are all in this same little boat. Yesterday was a beautiful Sunday, sun shining, but for me, the sun did not come out, until the sun went down. Go Figure, eh?
Made a decision to seek and find through Prayer today, what will nourish the Soul of this Alke, or Drunk that does not Drink, one day at a time. (there is a hint coming thru) that it is about more diligence on working the 12 Steps, that is the way out of the Disease, that works for me and others, (I have experienced that freedom many, many times), want it back, willing to do whatever it takes to get back there, so I can go forward. One step forward, two steps back, an old term for the growth process.

Have come to the conclusion that what John wrote about yesterday, THINK, THINK, THINK, had an impact on me yesterday, I was aware of my emotions managing me. Not a good idea.
It is not an approved Book, but nevertheless has helped a lot in my Recovery, The Road Less Travel, by Scott Peck, M.D. In this book he talks at length about how we need to manage our emotions, or they will manage us, (as an example, they will raid the liquor cabinet often) Could definately relate to that part.
So with seeking thru Prayer this morning, some way to Nourish this Soul of mine, I am also making a committment to personally attempt to manage my emotions. By thinking them through,with THINK, THINK, THINK!
Trudi, I understand what you are saying. I would love to be able to visit England and other countries, just to experience something different. I live in a rural area in the great state of TX. I can drive 30 miles in any direction and go to an AA meeting. We have two meetings in the town were I live each week, there are usually about 20 people at the Tuesday night meeting and 10 at the most at the Thursday night meeting.
The thing that I love about AA, is that it doesn't matter where you go, what state, city , small town, if you take a meeting into the jail or prison , instituiton... they are basically all the same ...if you stick to the Big Book, the Twelve and Twelve, the AA principles, AA is the language spoken from the heart...then you feel right at home.It's when people try to bring in other ideas other than the program , that I get uncomfortable, but I just take what I like and leave what I don't....and maybe not attend that meeting anymore.

Phil, I'm glad to hear that the Canadian navy has upgraded it's ships!

In the midwest US where I live, it's none too exciting, and not all that pretty, either. I'm in what is called the Bible Belt, and though it seems folks are religious here, they mainly appear to worship barbecue, cellphones and football (American football, not real football like in England-I mean, how often does a foot contact the "ball" in US football? Why IS it called football? OK, I'm NOT a huge fan of American football!) Our weather is often very hot and sticky in the summer, with the lovely threat of tornadoes-and in winter, it can be frigid and we get ice storms which knock out the power, sometimes for weeks. (Imagine an American without power to run a TV or microwave! What a dreadful state of affairs!) I do live in a relatively big city, so I find it amazing that we can be powerless so long. (I used to live in the eastern US, adn we rarely had power outages, except the big blackout in NY when I was a child.)
As for meetings at my group, I go mostly during the day (when most folks who have jobs work) and attendance varies between 10 up to around 23 people. We've had smaller groups (once just two of us!) but it's usually around 15, I'd guess. I think it's a good size, since we all normally get to share our experience, strength and hope. (Some folks get a little long-winded, however, so not all share each time lately.) I do like the smallish size, I feel I know people better and get them confused less (I am not good at remembering names.) Our meetings are supposed to last an hour, and run over a little some times. And there are at least two evening meetings per day as well-I never go to those, I have to work on weekdays.
I hear there is a very interesting sounding meeting place for AA in a city about 40 miles from me in my state-I may go with a friend from rehab sometime. The group sounds about the same size, but the meetings are held in an old mansion (not a rented meeting hall like my home group has.) The mansion has rooms for AA, GA, Al-Anon and maybe more-it used to have rooms for detox years ago, before hospitals did that. To me, it sounds fascinating, and I do want to visit and see for myself. But my home group is under 3 miles from my house, and I walk there some days-I'd have to plan a day around the other meeting! But I am intrigued. Most meetings are in halls like I go to, or church space-a mansion is not the norm! My friend gives it high marks as a place to go, she loves it!
No, I would not say the US is really exciting-parts are nice, but I think much is just ordinary busy cities or quiet little towns. If I were a visitor, I'd want to see New England or California or Colorado or maybe places along the eastern coast. New Mexico and Arizona sound interesting and scenic to me. Just my opinion, and I haven't been to all of the US myself-but I will say, I personally like Canada to visit! The people are friendlier, the country less polluted (in all ways!)... and yes, I am part Canadian on my mom's side. We from the USA are mostly so clueless about Canada, many of us have never even been there! (And why exactly are we called "Americans"? America is a continent, we are North Americans, and so are Canadians, and then there are South Americans like Mexicans...why does the USA have to be so arrogant as to call its people "Americans"? "United Statesians" is too odd?)
Me, I'd like to see England some day! (And hear it, too-I love British accents! I cringe at some accents here in the US, as well as the butchered English!)
