Trudi, If you are talking about you drinking and having young children... I can relate to the guilt. My daughter was 8 years old when I stopped drinking...I had many feelings of guilt about things I did and didn't do while I was drinking. When I got sober, started working the steps, living sober, learned how to be a sober Mom...things got better. It took time. I even had my son after I got sober, my sobriety baby. It was a whole different experience. We can't go back but we can go forward, one day at a time. How old are the children?
If this is not what you are talking about , I'm sorry. But this is how I read your post.
It has some wonderful sharing on this. You should be able to pick one up at an AA meeting. You can also subscribe online. It's been a great resource for me in staying sober.

Hi Trudy, I am also an alcoholic mother, my kids are now 10 and 16. I messed up and missed out on quite a bit of their lives, about 5 years worth. There is a lot of guilt, but my kids are great and are just glad I'm getting help now. I've been very lucky to have such good kids, they're turning out pretty well in spite of my problems. Hope your children are as forgiving!
