Today's Gift --- Boy, Did I need this One Today !!!

We're not given more than we can handle.

Sometimes I take on more than I can comfortably manage - thats one of the ways in which my life becomes unmanageable. It happens when I'm operating according to self-will rather than the will of a Higher Power.

I believe that God does not expect more of me than I can produce, that along with the challenges and difficulties I encounter comes the strength I need to cope with them and learn from them. When chaos threatens, I'm either taking on more than I should, or I'm not using the resources available to me.

With recovery, we learn to arrange our priorities so that we do not get worn out with compulsive activity and busy-ness. Everything becomes more manageable when we're not trying to run the show by ourselves. Solid experience teaches us that support is always at hand, that our Higher Power comes through for us when we ask for help.

I will face today's tasks confident that I will be given the ability to accomplish my Higher Power's will for me.

Whew Pappy, I cannot wait until I am able to arrange my priorities! My days are filled with that compulsive activity and busy-ness you mentioned and by the end of the day I feel like I haven't gotton the things done that really needed to be done. I say prayers everyday and need to learn how to pray more for my HP's will for me. Thanks so much for posting this as I was just praying for God's guidance today and I have been forgetting to do that for some reason.

Re-Printed especially for BTY ... Let me know !!!

AAADD
KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.....PLEASE READ!

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder

Somehow I feel better even though I have it!!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,

I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,

I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,

put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back

on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think,

since I 'm going to be near the mailbox

when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,

and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study,

so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,

fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,

I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,

but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,

get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to

remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,

I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,

and I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favor.

Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I don't remember who I've sent it to.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Hey Mike, I got me a 'flu shot' last week and I swear it put me on 5-day sickness ... it really affected my memory for some reason ... my arm ached and the shot site itched all the time ... I'm better now, but wow, it through me for a loop ... I would be talking to someone about something and I mean, I would totally forget what I was talking about ... I tried to explain to the parts guy at Advanced Auto what I was doing to service my truck, and I would forget the terms like 'torque converter' and 'drip pan' ... I mean it was scarry ... It sounded like I was more than half drunk ...

I did have a mini-stroke last year, so that might have something to do with it, but really ??? ... I blame it all on that crazy 'shot in the arm' ... no more 'flu' shots for me ...LOL

Sorry about the shot and illness you had afterwards Pappy. Here is a site which gives side effects of the flu shot if you are interested...
www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/flushot.htm...

I was working on something else and thought I hadn't been to this site since this am. Want to check some more postings but there is a chocolate cake calling my name in the fridge. But I'll probably need to go out and smoke a cigarette on the porch before I get to the fridge. That is after I go to the bathroom, as I walk by it on the way to the kitchen. But my feet are cold and I'll probably put on socks before I make it to the bathroom. Then I'll probably get my herb tea and reheat that on my way to the kitchen. Then after I do all of that, I want to come back to this site and read more postings. But I really should get back on my work which really needed to be done earlier today, but other things came up I did instead, so I don't know when I'll get back to this site.

Yep, Pappy....I think I may have that....and I am not kidding. It sounds so much like me, except I don't have a house, garage, car, flower garden and I don't drink Pepsi.

I grew up with Pepsi and used to love it. It tastes different to me now...maybe I've dulled my taste buds with all the alcohol and cigs. And I love tea!

Thanks for the 'link' you gave above, BTY ... ... ... I finally checked it out ... my doctor is the one who recommended it while I was seeing him ... I did have the soreness they mentioned AND the itching ... BUT my 'thinking' for a few days was near totally absent of 'short term' memory ... go figure ... could just be my age LOL ...

I'll warn you against the Snapple Peach Tea ... my granddaughter visited this summer and that's what she drinks ... so when she left, we had some left in the fridge ... the thought of 'peach' and 'tea' together just didn't sound good to me ... so it sat for a long time ...well, one day, I ran out of Pepsi and I saw that stuff just sitting there, and the thought of it being there next year bothered me, so I drank one just to see what it actually tastes like ... WOW, that stuff is good ... BUT it's rather expensive ($1 per bottle) ... StPeteDean drinks some of that stuff from Arizona I think and it has Lemonade/Tea in it, but he's found a source over the internet to get it cheaply ... when I get moved and settled down, that's exactly what I intend to do ...

Hi Pappy, Just found your post on this subject and thank you for the warning about the cost of Snapple. I am hooked on the herb teas right now. Even though I am pretty sure all of the alcohol is out of my system by now, I still drink the detox teas as well as other herb teas. I drink a lot of coffee, smoke cigarettes and eat sweets everyday (something which I have heard is good for alcoholics to do to lessen the craving for alcohol, so it is guilt-free for me). But when I want to splurge, I will try the Snapple. Oh, I did see the Arizona tea you mentioned at the Dollar Tree. I didn't look at the ounces, but it is a pretty good size bottle.

As far as short term memory, my memory in general is really screwed up now. Not sure if I killed off too many brain cells by the drinking, age or just "me".
