Robert E. Lee's Birthday was celebrated in the South during the Civil war. Even today in the South, the day that Robert E. Lee was born is celebrated as "Robert E. Lee" day. It is a Southern Holiday in some areas. It is interesting that in some years his birthdate occurs on the day we celebrate Martin Luther King day.

Thanks for the information Doll. I'm interested in American History and recently read a few books (Catton's trilogy on The Army of the Potomac, The Sword of Lincoln, and a biography of Grant) about the Civil War. I'd be curious if you, or anyone else out there, could recommend a good biography of Lee. Mike in Boston
I have family ancestors that were in the Civil War, and have some family stories about it. Also the Battle of New Orleans. I never cared much for dry history courses,, most historians write from their own perspectives,, but the personal family stories are precious and make it come alive.
