WOO HOO! Damn it! I feel GRRREEAAT! My very first New Year's day without a hangover, still drinking, still drunk or hugging the porcelain god!!
I spent last night at my home groups Alco-thon. We had a BLASSST! I laughed so hard thought I was gonna wet my pants a couple times. We cooked the traditional collards and black eyed peas, and of course swapped "war stories" of New year's past........ What a blessing to be sober one more day! And what a miracle I am becaue I never wanted to NOT drink, my foxhole prayer on hangover days was never , "Lord, I'll never do this again" it was ALWAYS "I'll never drink THAT much again! "
Love to you all

Recipe for a Happy New Year
Take twelve whole months. Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean as possible. Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-one different parts, but don't make up the whole batch at once.
Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation, and one good deed.
Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cup full of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness.
You're bound to have a Happy New Year!

* We eventually realize that just as the pains of alcoholism had to come before sobriety, emotional turmoil comes before serenity. *
Use to share the same thought pattern, when I was using and Drinking, I would think which one should I cut back on today! This alcoholic had a bigger problem than drinking, it was my thinking! A major change in my thinking was required before I could deal with the drinking problem. AA should me how to do that. Step One! first, the rest would follow.
For the past several years, I always attended the big new years eve blowout put on by our local American Legion. In fact, as a member, I often helped plan the event, helped with the steak grill, and even helped to bartend (none of which, in our little legion, requiree that I not drink).
This year, I stayed home, had a nice steak dinner with a big glass of iced tea (one of my favorite drinks these days), watched a little tv, and went to bed before midnight. I woke up today, thinking...my life now belongs to me, and no longer to the bottle.
