I am so frightened, just came of a horrible bender yesterday and am waiting for my brother to come and bring me medication from the chemists to help stop the shaking and vomiting. I was so scared I would die and I nearly did I drunk so much. I guess I just need to hear from others who've experienced what I'm going through.
From what I can remember, in 6 days I did 2 bottles of vodca, one of pimms and about 12 bottles of wine.
I feel awful, will people tell me how they've done it please.
Please go to hospital or a detox when your brother arrives. Is this possible? If not, can your brother stay with you today? You should not try to detox by yourself...
How did I do this? A day at a time, a minute at a time. I knew I needed to stop drinking, yet couldn't do it alone. I went to some AA meetings, but would leave and go home and drink. If you don't want to drink, call the people in AA. Tell them you want to stop and ask them for help. And just for today, this minute, this hour, don't drink. You can stop for today, right? Just today...worry about tommorrow later. Please call them. They will help.
And let us know how your doing. We care about you...
Christine, I'm glad your brother has brought you the medicine you needed. You did not say if you have ever been to an AA meeting, have you? Have you been to treatment or Detox before? Cheri's suggestions were good.
My name is Rose, I'm an Alcoholic, delivered by the grace of God and the program of AA, I have now been sober over 20 years. My drink of choice was vodka, I was buying a gallon, every other day, just before I hit my bottom. I know what the program of AA can do for a person who wants to get rigerously honest, I know it works, if you want to work it. I'm sure you're husband is tired. Please seek help, for you and your husband , you are worth it, you deserve to experience life sober.
Unfortunately AA is not an option because my husband is adamant he doesn't want me to go. Several years ago unfortunately I developed a relationship with a man in AA and this nearly split my marriage up. I was vulnerable at the time, just having come off the booze and he took advantage. I found out later he had done it before.
I've detoxed in hospital many times and normally take anti abuse tablets to keep me off the booze. Stupidly came off them though and convinced myself I could have a sociable drink. I couldn't!!!!
I read a book called Phoenix in a Bottle which said it could be an option, I should have known it was stupid.
Best Regards
Christine
P.S.I shall keep logging on here because this is helping.
Thanks for the message- I feel for you, I have 32 days today, and I had to call 911 just before that after my extremities and arms were going numb and I was fading out of consciousness- I thought I was finally a goner that time andI was terrified.
The scary thing is I still drank again the next day.
But after that I made it to a meeting, for which I thank God- I was in awful shape but the people in AA reached out to me with such energy and love it was overwhelming. I made 2 more that day, and have gone to one or more each day since, excepting Thanksgiving.
I got a lot of phone numbers and called people, and got a sponsor, with whom I have been reading through the blue book of AA.
I have tried this a couple times and I see from my own experience and that of others, that the people who stay sober and seem happy and fulfilled tend to work the steps and stay vigilant about helping others recover. Life can be wonderful-
I have read through your posts and wondered if you could talk to hubby about going WITH you to AA. He can go with you to every single open meeting, and together share the experience with you. You could talk to him about going to different meetings than the ones you went to before, and perhaps that would help.
If not, keep coming to the board and post, post, post. Know that you are loved and being prayed for. I DO understand.

Take it one day at a time. It is easiest that way. Try to talk your husband into going with you to the meetings, it would be good for him to see how many people were helped and how wonderful the fellowship really is, aside from whatever happened in the past. It is now that is important and it sounds like he would like you sober.
AA really works and has a lot of women in it. It might help if you can get someone to talk to him or have him read the big book and see how much it would help you and has helped thousands of others.
But for now reach out and keep coming back. Make phone calls to people in AA and hang in there "YOU CAN DO IT" I did.
Glad you're doing better today. Maybe some AA women can visit you at your home in the beginning, so that you and your husband can discuss some of your concerns about meetings with them. And of course your husband is always welcome at open meetings if he is not alcoholic, if he cares to attend.
Please keep posting here also...this is the next best thing to a f2f. The important thing to remember is that you don't have to do this alone...there are alot of people who care about what happens.
As long as we are making recommendations.... if you can't get to a face2face meeting for now,,, and I would not argue with our husband about it... not try to control him and persuade him to do anything,, but focus on yourself and doing what you can do. There is literature that you can get, which I got, the '12 Step and 12 Tradition' book helps us to understand how to do the Steps, as it discusses each Step, and the AA Big Book. Ther are also a couple of other really good books that you can get from the headquarters in New York. I am going to be posting up excerpts from the '12 x 12' and an ACA book this week. You can check the Step Work Board out to learn the Steps from there also, and we invite shares from people who are working, or thinking about working the Steps.
I'm glad you're okay. I do hope you take care of yourself. It sounds like you really haven't. It is hard to gain back someone's trust after hurting them like that. Some of these things have to be long term goals. We have a saying here... 'first things first', and the first thing you have to do is get through today without drinking. I hope you keep posting. See you later.
love in recovery,
amanda
