Whatever a man seeks, honors or exalts more than God, this is the god of idolatry. --Archbishop William B. Ullathorne
We seek many things that have no lasting value. Things such as money, acclaim, prestige, power, fame, popularity, recognition, respect, good looks, stylishness, knowledge, and pride can become our idols if we put any of them before God. We also make idols of whatever we worry about. When we devote more of ourselves to anything other than cultivating our conscious contact with God, we create an inner void. The more idols we pursue, the emptier our life becomes.
If we, however, put God's will before the rest and trust that our needs will be supplied, we often find material possessions, good friends, good health, and good sense coming our way.
Whatever I plan to do today, I will try to seek God's will for me first.
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten. --Jessie Potter
When we have to make a decision, we need to know if we're deciding for ourselves or to please others. We need to really consider all our options and not let fear or low self-esteem force us into a decision we may regret.
We can make a list of our options and the possible consequences of each and check it out with someone we admire and respect. No one can live without support from others. At the same time, no one can live our lives for us. We are free to ask for help, free to change ourselves as we choose, and free to enjoy the rewards.
Today let me try to make decisions based on facts and then get a second opinion.
