The Serenity Prayer is one I'm very grateful for.  It short, but covers so much.  Before I came to AA, I knew of the Serenity Prayer, but I didn't really understand or used it like I use it now.

God Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change.

I use to skip this part all together.  Because now, I understand I didn't accept anything, unless it was in my favor of course.  Once I started to understand what Powerlessness was and accepted being Powerless, this part became easier to practice.

Courage to change the things I can

I use to think I could change things by trying to manipulate, push, shove, yell, etc...  This part is the meat for me.  I basically can't change anything, but me.  (I'm powerless over people, places and things)  Another acceptance.

And the Wisdom to know the difference.

I usually smile when I pray this part, because I sometimes need reminding of the first two sentences of this prayer.  Practice, practice practice.

I'd love to hear/read your ES&H in using the Serenity Prayer if anyone's up for it.

Thanks!
