Am I that desperate for a buzz?

As I mentioned last week I've had spiritual awakening as a result of shutting my mouth and doing what I'm told...and while I can honestly say that the obsession to drink has been removed the addict in me is still doing his best to find a way to get me feeling numb. I decided to quit smoking and I discovered that these nifty nicotine patches give you quite the little buzz. Within in few days I was putting 3 on at a time. My girlfriend caught me standing buck naked in front of the bathroom mirror sticking them on various parts of my body (they work better on some parts than on others) and she asked if I might be subconsciously looking for a "high" of some sort. I told her there was nothing subconscious about it and that they make me feel groovy! She suggested that I ask my sponsor about his opinion on "nicotine patch abuse"...so I did and he told me I was an idiot and if I couldn't follow the instructions properly I shouldn't use them at all.

So now the fun is over.

It's shocking how easily we can fall into the trap of finding something new to medicate ourselves with. Next thing you know I wont be allowed to drink the mouthwash or vanilla extract anymore either :p

Are we allowed to drink the mouthwash!!!!!!lol

The worst part of putting all those darn patches on you are that you can have a dang heartattack!!!!!! Thats why they tell you not to have on a patch and smoke!!!! So, glad you got busted!!!!!!

I too crave the "numbness" once in a while then realize I cant do that today!!! Gotta face and deal with life in a whole new way! Its hard but must say, its getting easier each day!

Good luck!!!

LMAO, I'm picturing TM with nicotine patches on both carotid arteries. At least you're not using the narcotic pain patches.

Don't give him any IDEAS, Dean!!!!

Good Lord Tipsy, nicotine can KILL YOU if you overdose on it. I would hate to see you go through all you have gone through, to meet an untimely end via nicotine patches!!

Quit trying to get high, and deal with yourself!! I am dealing with myself tonight by painting my cupboards... and yes, I DO have the windows open!!

Hey Tipsy,
Yes--it is amazing how we look for that! I slipped last week, which drove me back to the big book where it discussed all the "experiments" we do and how what we think is a "sucessful experiment" means we are ok to drink again!!! We are unique individuals! I am glad you did not overnicotate!

Wow I can completely relate to this. There have been a couple of times I spent hours online looking for creative ways to get intoxicated, though I never ended up using them. Suggestions ranged from eating vast quantities of nutmeg to standing up really fast.

Sometimes when I get super tempted to drink alcohol I drink copious amounts of black coffee and energy drinks in a short period of time, just to find some altered state of mind. I've also used sleep deprivation as intoxication. weirdface.gif

Why don't you guys try eating, sleeping and exercising well? Taking vitamins and food supplements works too.
Here's a couple for you. Raw bee pollen. I've been taking it daily for about 10 years. These two together before exercising, co-enzyme Q-10 and L-carnitine, they provide tremendous energy and feeling of well being. I've been taking those for 18 years, google all three and tell me what you find.

Whatever you do, do NOT take nutmeg. You'll get sick as hell will lose you will to live lol. I watched someone do that and It wasn't pleasant.

Hey Tipsy,

That's quite the visual, glad you're OK.  I too looked for ways to numb out, I used trance music and would turn it up really loud.  Then I tried getting a very heavy emotional state of being, listening to Johnny Cash ect, it felt very intoxicating to me.  But it didn't feel good, it felt numb, and I decided I didn't want to live my life in that state of being anymore.

Nothing has ever elevated me more than prayer and meditation.  And listening to healing music, rather than pain filled music.  The steps are great too, I'm one who hasn't worked through them at a rapid pace.  I go it on my own time and that works for me.

Take care, Moon

The worst part is that I'm fairly furry and each time I pull off one of the patches I lose a certain amount of my fur.

I'm starting look like I have mange =)

I've smoled that nutmeg, does it ever wear off?

They are all Bullshitting you Tipsy. Patches are good for you. You just have to apply them on more secret parts. What for are all these people into your private life? Thats an ALANON thing your girlfriend has. send her down the hall and tell her to mind her own business. A man ought to be able to climb into his corner once in a while without people bothering him.
