Well done on getting to your first meeting. I couldn't stay sober without my meetings. I hope that you got some other members 'phone numbers at the meeting. If you're feeling not too good about drinking, please pick up the 'phone and speak to someone, won't you? It really does help.
And, congrats on your first day! Life without alcohol in it just keeps getting better.
Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you?
Take care,
Carol

Luckily for me, I have always had that connection to a higher power. I could see how some people could be put off by that, especially some of the younger ones at the meeting who I imagine were there as part of some kind of deal with the courts.
I realised a couple of days ago that I had a major problem when I woke at about 3am in my car, not knowing where I was or what I had been doing. The passenger footwell was full of empty 12% bourbon and coke cans. I was in my carport but didn't even remember driving home.
When customers phoned me in the afternoons I was almost unable to speak most days. Word has been getting around. I still kept drinking.
Looking forward to my next meeting tonight. It is a closed one. I'm still Mr Clean.
I've had a very productive day today already. Got my lawns done for the first time in a couple of months. I'm so looking forward to my great new life. I've just moved to a new town and I turn 40 next week.
Happy 40th, and Christmas week, eh? Wonderful time to begin anew!! Your home and dog are beautiful, and it sounds like you are making a good start with meetings. Just don't do what I did. I got over-confident and cut down drastically on meetings, to almost none, and eventually the old demon came back. But I am coming up on 30 days again, and I am "back to basics", and I hope I never again quit actively pursuing recovery.
I have to always remember that I am doing this just 24 hours at a time. That's all any of us has, if you really think about it. We are only responsible for taking care of what lies right in front of us. The past is history, tomorrow is a mystery... today is our GIFT and that is why it's called the "present". Welcome aboard!!

Welcome Mr Clean!!!! Youre in the right place!! I found the best thing for me in the beginning was meetings everyday, sometimes twice a day! You meet the greatest people. This morning I actually woke up smiling thinking of my new friends and how much they mean to me! All's I can say is Im dang lucky!!! May you find it too!!!! Lani

I heard some great stories and I met some great people. Also a couple of them gave me their numbers so I can pick up the phone instead of a drink.
Thanks everyone.

that's a very important tool. find a sponsor asap, someone that seems older wiser, profound to you. just tell that you are new and were told to "get a sponsor". also going to a meeting every day almost insures that you'll stay sober. have you heard it said "go to 90 meetings in 90 days" ? we had time to drink most days (everyday for me) so we can take an hour for a meeting. I think I only missed 3 days in the first 3 years and none in the first 6 months.
