im a few weeks away from 3 yrs sobriety. did anyone's heads still feel cloudy after this amount of time?
of course, when i quit the drink my head was totally fucked up big time, and the periods of time and severity of foggyness have both lessened, but still it seems to persist.
i did have loads of black outs/orgasmic sensations (hard to explain, but i guess it was severe nerve damage, i dunno- ermm, hard to explain that one)/shakes etc, so its gonna take a while for body to recover.
yeah i got myself into some right messes.
any POSITIVE thoughts on this gratefully accepted!
sorry to talk shite, but i hope someone understands what the hell im on about!
cheers
sm

I can definitely relate to nerve damage. I have required more sleep than most people I know, even in periods of longer sobriety. Oh well. I figure I'm lucky to still be suckin' air!

It takes something like 7 years for most of the cells in your body to replace themselves, so there is still hope for you.
What's your diet, exercise, vitamenm, and water intake look like? Fruits, green leafy veggies? Ever done any herbal detox programs? Do you smoke tobbaco?
There is lots of things you can be doing to improve your health.
Alcoholic nerve damage by age 28??? You sir, are a God among alcoholics...
that's sounds like something a friend of mine would say. i called him a loveable asshole on more than one occassion... btw i can see you are a writer, because of the three dots at the end of your message- always ready for the publisher!
thanks to everyone else for their comments.
i just gotta give time even more time i guess.

Hi Senor Mouse, Have you tried vitamin B complex, I was advised to take these both last time I got sober and this time. They are really good for nerve endings and apparently whilst drinking we lose an awful lot of our vitamin B.
Dean quoted..." It takes something like 7 years for most of the cells in your body to replace themselves, so there is still hope for you."
yup...I go with that one..:)
Let me add on to that. Cells that contain toxins often don't reproduce. We really have to make a go at getting healthy (at least for awhile to give our bodies the opportunity to heal) to make the best of our recovery. Get busy Senor, the internet (the gym, and healthfood store) are your friend.
Seriously, FOR THE RECORD...... cells reproduce/replace themselves at all different rates throughout the body, depending on what type of tissue/organ you are dealing with. and some NEVER do. The point? We are some F***ed up folks.
My remedy for stress? SLEEP, and saying "NO".
And if anyone said to me, "drop and give me 20", I would hand them my wallet, and hit the deck.

i like the pictures of the military men. your yankee drill instructor is terrifying looking- i wouldn't give him no shit! on the other hand, his british counterpart (see pic), might just blow smoke in your face. wonder what you americans really think of the british?
its not all queens english and cucumber sandwiches over here you know! ;)

The american guy is an actor on a show called "Mail Call", a kind of show and tell about military hardware with some humor thrown in. The guy was actually a drill instructor back in the vietnam war era. That Brit general looks pretty cool I thought like "as soon as I finish me pipe, I'll rip yer head off" lol
LOVE them. Have a very very good friend there. I see half of you as extremely polite (to a point), and the other half as scruffy and wonderful. Love the Cockney accents too. You Brits don't take any crap, as seen in the London bombings a few years ago.... your intel rocks. Brit humor is second to none. Favorite actor is a Brit, Jeremy Irons. Loved him in the Brittish production when he was younger, "Brideshead Revisited". Love videos I have seen of your Parliament "going at it". Your countryside is amazing. Love you guys and gals.
NOW... what do you think of Americans? (LOL)

hmmm, maybe its not drink/drug damage after all- but it probably didn't help! i've figured out that maybe i need to be kinder on myself and relax more!
this is something i couldn't do in early sobriety!

I didn't really start to recover until I was without a drink for 10 years that made me 34 & then I guess I willing to go to any length to get it.
But in the beginning for several years I would say 3 to 5 that I wasn't sure what I was doing or suppose to do or feel. Was mixed up in my head alot.
Today my head doesn't get messed up much because I work on that conscious contact with my HP on prayer and meditation -- asking for guidance and direction & to do his will always!
Boy life has become so much more pleasant to live and experience.
Zarat, I don't think senor mouse liked "faggy traditions". senor (senior?) mouse, generalazations or stereo types typically wind up offending somebody. There a lot's of americans that don't drive or don't drive alot (use alternative trans like bicycling) and now many that drive hybrids or turbo deisels. I ride my honda 500 motorcycle, that get's 60 mpg, as often as I can including when I go out a do estimates.
The country is somewhat split down the middle of a resurgence of "Green" thinking and concerns over global warming (like him or not Al Gore has made the world aware of it and won a Nobel PP). So maybe it's time to modify your "impressions" some.
When I think about Brits, it's all good, from the music you gave us to the great sense of humor, to being an icredible ally and neighbor. We have a lot of you in St. Pete, FL, seems like you all come here once and many stay and buy vacation homes. Come on down, I'll buy you and Ice Tea lol
we may have given you music, but it all came from the USA in the first place! from the delta blues and onwards. we just stole and developed it ;)
good to see you are green minded. you proved my limited impresions wrong on the yanks. however, i am yet to meet an american, though, whose voice doesn't carry- are you that man?
