who... ME? follow DIRECTIONS???????

Yikes.

Hubby brought home a couple of bushels of golden delicious apples from WA state. (Long story). I thought, "well, whatever I cannot pawn off to friends and family who bake, I will bake some pies and apple crisps."

Well, I have not baked a pie since childhood. Not unless you simply remove from box and place in oven. So I am in the grocery store thinking I KNOW what I need for this. A few ready-made pie crusts and some butter and brown sugar. Right?

Wrong. I get home and peel a whole mess of apples. Start to put the pies together. Have NO FLOUR for the filling. Back to store.

Then I put pies together, put tops on, cut slits, pinch around edges. FORGOT to put butter in the filling. End up trying to wedge tiny slices of butter through the slits in the crust.

UGH.

There are 2 pies in the oven now, and lets hope for the best.

Lesson?
Do NOT work the AA program the same way I bake.

Joni,
Thank you for the laughs! (And of course, the wisdom of your message.) What made
me laugh......the memory of one Thanksgiving. Never baked a pumpkin pie. Got the stuff
in the can and thought all you had to do was pour it in the shell. After baking for WELL over
an hour it was still this soupy mess. UGH! Called an aunt who bakes from scratch. She started laughing...... Thought then I could salvage it so as I took down her directions told son to get a cookie sheet, place both pies on it and put them on the counter. Thinking the cookie sheet would be easier for him to handle. It was, however, his footing was so secure
and he lost his footing as he turned. Ooooops! Made hot fudge sundaes. thank God,
the turkey turned out better.
To further your wisdom.......
My moral of my tale is ......... It is always wise to open the Big Book and follow directions.

OK... update on this one...

Am going to a local church today which said they would LOVE to receive the additional case of apples for baking, and am dropping it off today. THEN, am delivering the pie I baked to my aunt's house for her housewarming. It looks beautiful, but we shall see when I cut into it and eat a slice.....

to be continued. LOL
