To be honest? I dont really know if I've ever had a handle on that one..:)
Just wanted to share....as I have been doing..with a few...via email...
That I still keep in touch with the board..on a daily basis...even tho I cant do as much as I used to...because of chemo pill stuff...and some days ones brain...is like zombie....
Then again? This kids brain? has always been like a zombie (smile)
I've been in the Taxi business for a long time, in Ontario Canada...and carried a cell phone, with me..130 hours a week....been heavy into AA service work...and have been a single parent to 3 kids for 9 years...
I have not been successful in relationships..because I had expectations...that didnt work out....and on top of that...was always attracted to those that I thought I could fix, and help..instead of looking at myself.and fixing and helping myself..and we all know what the conclusions are with that..:)...There are also times that I've allowed myself to be a doormatt for others..and self esteem goes right down the tube...when one allows themselves to be beaten into the ground..
In this journey of sobriety.....especially with self will and self centeredness...there can be a lot of pain..and lessons are hard ones to learn...and sometimes..when we dont learn the first time...we go through a few more..until we get it right...It doesnt matter how many days that we have been here...
I have tried in the past to make a lot of things happen...instead of having the patience, to just let things happen...which has caused a lot of caous also...
The steps are really important in this journey....and six and seven are REAL BIGGYS...concerning this kid....and right now Step 11 is also..
In the past..I've tried to slow things down and get things off ones plate...but it never panned out....as planned.
Last night...the deal was concluded and finallized to sell the business....two more weeks..thats it...no more answering phones....fixing cars...worrying about customers and drivers...no more paperwork...long hours...and not enough sleep...
I feel as if theres been a big turnip trucks weight lifted from ones shoulders..
My kids are grown up now..and responsible...and the youngest one just finished school this summer...
Ive shared with the new owners that I would drive for them 4 days a week..while the snow flies...but come April first...this kid is outa here...
The last wish that I have...on this Earth is is go for a drive....and it doesnt matter how long it takes...
That drive could take one through 20 States and part of Canada....and I finally come to realiztion..that IT is going to happen....
During the next 90 days..I wish to plan that trip...a trip where I can meet all you great people....and even spend time with you, if you wish...
I admire your courage. When i grow up, I want to be just like you .
Except for the working so hard part. Man you really need to get out there this winter and spend it in the sunshine state. Those new owners don't need you, they can get someone (that really needs a job) to drive that cab. I've got a spare bed/bath that you can occupy for a few weeks. It's just me and the wife and the house is a split plan, we'll hardly know you're there. We're out of here the week after christmas and 1/19 - 1/26, come down during that time and have the house to yourself for a week. I'm a block from the intercoastal and 1 mile from the beach. We need someone to let the cats in and out anyway.
And as far as your road trip, meet me in Boone NC next summer, if you're traveling in an RV I can hook you up on my mountain top, or you can stay in mine. Look forward to it.
um Dean? Did you say grow up? Who wants to grow up buddy...lol....I wanna be a big kid for the rest of my life...Its easier..:)
I could take off earlier then April first...but..I built this baby..from absolutely nothing...to what it is today...
And I promised the great couple, last night...that bought it...(that have another taxi company..in an nearby town...) and are also both members of AA...that I would help with the transition..
Call me a Softy..:)
Take the email address down pal.....send me your information....and you can be Sure..that we WILL hook up....I have about 6 allready....Could be a long tour..:)
Have a great day!! and Keep on truckin!!

Live each day as if it were your last...because tomorrow?
It might be.
Hi Phil: It's so great to see your post today!! I miss reading your words of wisdom! I admire the fact that 1) You get to retire (it sounds like you worked hard for it) 2) You get to travel just as you dreamed you would!! Wouldnt that be sooo fun to meet all the people in person that you have met on here over the years!! Best of luck in all your journeys. I'll try to email you the address here so you can stop in for a meeting. You'd be amazed at all the people that attend meetings here!! So I hope your feeling ok and taking care of youself while taking your chemo. The best thing I ever heard when on treatment is: Save your energy for the things you want to do the most!!! The other stuff, do in baby steps, it will all still be there tomorrow!! So, from one chemo brain(Mine is from mixing and giving it!!!) to another, have a great day!!! Lani Is Canada full of turnips or what!!!???haha

Hey Phil, I kinda think that I might be a little off the route you had in mind, (I believe I've mentioned that I live 20 miles east of the International Peace Garden on the North Dakota/Manitoba border). However, I want you to know that if you showed up in my driveway tonight, I would welcome you into my humble abode.
Hope you don't mind turnips for dinner.
However your schedule works out, I hope that your cross country (or criss-cross country) trip is full of fantastic events.
Hey Phil: Your going to need to get a Laptop for your "Road Trip" so you can post and keep us up to date on the progress during your trip. Also a digital camera, you could upload your pictures to a site like Flickr http://www.flickr.com/ then paste a link then we could see pictures of where you go and who you meet. Take care. Bob.

Heyho Phil, so sorry to hear your recovery is having to go to a few extra lengths there. I had no idea of what you're dealing with. You have my deepest care & concern & I so sincerely hope the best for you. It sounds like you're keeping the best spirit to feed & fulfill your soul. Your road~trip sounds awesome. I'd a loved to be along the way. You can keep us journaled in with your stories cross the country nevertheless! As for relationships.. Mine have been an obsession. Now (with help) I'm learning to live with & look after myself. Some tall order! Enjoying the small stuff & improvements though! All in a Day's sobriety. Sticking with it pal. 1Day@aTime. Made friends with my ego this week. Keep your friends close & your enemies closer. Mine is like a feral kitten all soft & cuddly one minute & then suddenly all scratches abound! I'm monitoring its wiley ways. I know how cunning, baffling & powerful this illness can be & I know it wants me to think I can control it. I would not have any of what I have today if I took that first drink. Drinking got me into trouble. Got me into AA too so not all bad, hey. The thought of returning to Day1 keeps me trucking ~ Just for Today. My tuppence to remind myself of my primary purpose. I always make it about & bring it back to me in the end! I'm so comical. Thanks for being here, Phil. Keep us included ;) Danielle x
