(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Oct. 3, 2007- The Columbia Inferno have agreed to terms with left wing Tyler Doig, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today.
Doig recorded 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) and 55 penalty minutes while splitting the 2006-07 between the Guelph Storm and Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. The 6-foot, 180-pound Doig also tallied 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) and eight penalty minutes in 15 playoff games with the Bulls last season.
Tyler is a swift skater who has proven to be a prolific scorer at the junior level, Mann said. He is a solid player at both ends of the ice, and we are pleased to add him to our forward corps.
Prior to turning pro, Doig, 21, notched 170 points (70 goals, 100 assists) and 201 penalty minutes in 196 career OHL games with Belleville, Guelph, and the Barrie Colts. The Seaforth, Ont. native also tallied 25 points (six goals, 19 assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 34 career OHL playoff games.

pretty cool! Good to see the NHL gaining in popularity. I've been fan since the 60's, even though DC had no team then I followed the Boston Bruins Bobby Orr... had to watch the games recorded on UHF tv right after wrestling and roller derby. Later played jr. league and in a men's league with a bunch a firemen. Great fun.
Good ole Bobby Orr...Dean...:) lives about an hour n of where I am...
Used to watch that little guy play.....it was astounding...
Wrestling and roller blading....hmmm....Used to wrestle when I drank...but usually out behing the bars..:)
Roller blading? Tried it once....almost wound up as a fatality..
Hockey.....ended my career as a goalie at the age of 39...met a guy at the blue line, comming in on a breakaway....He really looked smaller then I thought...but wasnt..
Broke my arm....and that ended that career..:)
Are we getting older? or is just me??? hahaha

You Canucks probably didn't get the WWF wrestling back then although (or whatever it was called back then).
Roller Derby likewise had pretend violence involving two team on conventional roller skates on a banked oval wooden track. It looked similar to Nascar except with human bodies instead of cars. Pretty entertaining really, much better than soccer, golf, or tennis LOL.
Hard to believe that you didn't take to roller blades right away. When I put them on it felt just Hockey skates. You just can't brake like on ice, it's more boating (or driving on snow) where you need to plan ahead a bit. LOL
I don't think I told that both my brother and father are named Phil.
WWF? Whipper Billy Watson ring a bell? or....are you not that old? :)
The only guy I remember from the 60's was the crazy russian guy. What's interesting is that I guess that all started here in Tampa and lot of the wrestlers still live in this area. I was an extra in a hulk hogan movie in '92 when I first got here and they had about 8 WWF guys in the movie. I'm a casual fan, but always liked hulk hogan.
Now..How does a 21 year old kid from Ontario Canada....wind up in the same town>?? Coincidence?Prolly not... heh heh. I quit trying to figure stuff like that out, but I sure enjoy when it happens! A friend of mine fifteen or so years ago helped me get sober. We lost touch a few months after that. We were both back out for years, and after I came back to AA 15 years later... we met again by chance, (or was it?) and now Im sponsoring him. Wierd stuff, but all good.
