"When we feel stuck, going nowhere -- even starting to slip backward -- we may actually be backing up to get a running start."
-- Dan Millman
To change, we must go through a transition zone. It's not easy being in transition. Thoughts, beliefs and habits are all in flux. It can create a sense of groundlessness, of being in a void that can be quite uncomfortable.
When were in the void, our first impulse will be to revert to old habits because they feel comfortable. Our goal is to hang in there until the change is complete. Knowing that TRANSITIONS ARE PART OF THE CHANGE PROCESS helps us muster the courage to put up with the discomfort, the uneasiness, the void.
Change requires a letting go of what weve always known and done to allow in something new. We need to trust ourselves and higher forces to unfold a new reality for us.
"Every positive change - every jump to a higher level of energy and awareness - involves a rite of passage. Each time to ascend to a higher rung on the ladder of personal evolution, we must go through a period of discomfort, of initiation. I have never found an exception."

Great passage except for the above. It could be better explained that new awarenesses of spiritual thinking and feeling, came come relatively easy, it's changing our behavior that can be difficult. This could be comforting to someone who is in that state of "flux" but might otherwise be discouraging to those of us who are considering a change. Hopefully one will move from having to have a lot of pain to induce a change to realizing early on that a situation (or behavior, relationship ect...) is unhealthy for us and move toward the path of least resistance (change). It is after all our reluctance to change that is the problem, not the "problem" (or the solution really) itself.
Yeah, I look forward to those "rites of passage" when I know they're coming. It's the sneaky ones that turn me off, altho in retrospect, I always learn from them. Whether I want to or not. Life would be easier if we always knew for sure that changes were positive, but then I guess we'd be pretty bored. Different things for different folks, eh?

On the other message board they have the 12-Steps. Some of them aren't in order but they are there and they are very good. Take a look at them and see what you think. You are in my prayers and I do hope that you are using H.A.L.T. Don't get to Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or tired. Those are an Alcoholics enemy. Blessings Pam P.
Thank you Pam for your prayers. I forgot all about H.A.L.T. thank you for reminding me of that. I did check out the 12 steps forum. It's too confusing to me. I saw recent posts but it was for Al-Anon. I threw away all alcholics anonymous stuff 7 years ago. I'm going to have to go to the mall today and replace some of the stuff I should have never let go. 21 days sober and counting!
