Man! Oh! Man! What a glorious 8 days I spent in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We rode soooo much my rear is sore! Ate some great seafood, found a hamburger joint with the biggest onion rings I've seen! And saw about a go-zillion motorcycles......I had the pleasure of visiting a bar called "Suck Bang Blow" in Murrells Inlet - they let you drive thru on a bike! They have a hole (I called it) for the crazy ones to burn out in. It was WILD! Only saw one really drunk, he managed to fall over in the parking lot of the grocery store, so we helped him pick his bike up, and I let him use my cell phone to call his friends to come get him. Saw a few get tickets for having Ape Hangers, they're illegal in SC, and lots and lots of half dressed women! A few at SBB were topless!
The weather was awesome, mid 80's, so I got up every morning and sat on the balcony with my coffee and read the BB while John worked out in the gym. Then we'd fix breakfast and go to the pool and/or the beach for a couple hours, then it was time to saddle up and ride! It's been many years since this old gal cruised the Boulevard on a Harley. Our nights were spent having a nice dinner, walking the beach, then we set up chairs in front of the condo and watched the bikes roar by.
(To my surprise) I had absolutely no problems with the alcohol that was flowing everywhere. For those of you who don't know, my b/f is not one of "us", and is very supportive of my recovery. He always made sure I was OK if we were around booze and was ready and willing to get me away from it, if necessary. The couple we shared a condo with drank a LOT, everyday, always an empty beer can or bottle sitting around somewhere (see picture below of me and John - LOL), but we didn't hang with them too much, they know I don't drink, so they were respectful of that, but it was their vacation too, after all.
I had armed myself with the local AA phone number and address, but never made it to a meeting ( we stayed on the go the whole time). I did call my sponsor daily and talked with some from my HG a few times. I really missed meetings, so will be at my HG today for the 1pm and the 8pm speaker tonight.
It's wonderful to take a vacation, but there is no place like home.
Envy.......overcomes me. Loved to ride with AH and see all the sites. And there certainly ARE some sites to see at rallies....(half dressed woman.....have even seen a few male "moons"........and some very "interesting" contests and dances...LOL) Aaaahhh the wonders of addictions/alcohol. LOL By the same token, there was always the element of fear when all inhibitions were being tossed to the wind. There was always someone within the crowd who pushed limits toooooo far. Not being much of a drinker......guess I never really understood how anyone could take some of the risks seen. Am happy you prepared yourself against the temptations. Blessed you that your BF is sooooo supportive and able to help you continue sobriety. by the way the pic of? Is that one yours? Not much of a motorhead, but always loved the uniqueness and creativeness in the various styles. Some of the artwork is trully "museum" worthy! Happy you had such a great time!!!!!
It's a Knucklehead that some old fart had customized, just one of the many that was on display. We saw quite a few "rat bikes" and a couple TRUE Hell's Angels. I, unfortunatly, didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked. Toteing a camera around was a big burden most days, taking sunscreen, long sleeves and jackets were more important, plus the fact that any purchases made had to be put somewhere too!
