Thankfully I was barely down the road after leaving my house... I pulled out of the driveway... and I'm bad about flooring it a bit, actually my gas pedal is so touchy that half the time I don't mean to... well, we live on a gravel road, and the guy that grades the road doesn't know how to do it, so we have this nice little mountain of gravel going down the road, that I happened to drive into when I floored it, and my car lost control, swerving back and forth... which even if I did floor it, it shouldn't have done that. I started to turn it around cuz I forgot something at home, and it wasn't steering right, it was like it was out of power steering fluid or something. Well, got it back in the driveway, called my friend, and he came and checked the fluid and it was fine. So he started up the car, the belt wasn't turning, shut it off and looked, and the belt had slipped off.
Ugh... I've had this happen before. But... the weird thing is the belt isn't frayed at all, so I have no idea what did it. And last time the belt came off, it didn't make my car swerve or anything... I have no idea what happened.
My car is next to impossible to work on. It's a tiny escort zx2 and that belt and pulleys are next to impossible to get to.
Well, we were going to have our neighbor's brother look at it anyway, cuz it's making weird noises, so... called my neighbor and left him a message to call when he gets home... need to get it looked at soon...
So I'm stuck at home. Was going to go to my friend's farm again... but, there's nothing pressing I need to do, no where I absolutely have to go, so I guess it's not a big deal. There's no other cars here I can drive. The only registered car here, the tags are expired, and it's a stick shift and I can't drive it. The only 2 automatics we have, have no tags or insurance... too bad my roommate hasn't fixed up the old motorcycle yet... I'd take it into town or something lol He's gonna fix it up for me, a 1983 Honda Passport... needs reupholstering and a new battery, otherwise runs great. But, don't think I'll register and insure it, probably just use it around the farm... lol gotta learn how to ride a motorcycle first though... lol
Oh well, this gives me time at home to get some reading done, and watch over my babies... I've got one that I'm pretty sure won't make it, one of the polish crested chicks. I've got a few others that have some sort of eye infection and I can't get their eyes open to put the puffer in it...
Oh, and I've named one of my chicks, the only one that I knew was a female, because it said in the store that she's a pullet... lol She's a silver laced wyandotte, she'll be beautiful when she's older, she's really cute now. Her name is Arwen :) I'm working on spoiling her to death, she's my favorite out of the chicks :) Whatever babies don't make it, I'll exchange them for more like her, they are really pretty chickens.
Look at the pulleys. Either the shaft holding one (or more) is bent or the edge of the pulley itself is bent/worn. May not be readily detected at first. Just a suggestion. Could be your HP is trying to tell you something....."enough chicks" LOL just teasing. Glad you weren't harmed. Be careful.
Hey.....curious to know why you can't/won't drive a stick shift, but would hop on the motorcycle and go in a heart beat? Most motorcycles are manually shifted. In an earlier post said I was raised on the farm. My father took me out to the field and tried to teach me how to shift gears in this reeeeeaaaalllllllllyyy old 2-ton. Had no patience when the foot didn't "quite" engage that clutch. After bucking and learching serveral times, along with severe verbal reprimands, I stomped to the house. My mom took me out later.... and within two tries I got it. Being the oldest of 6, dad was going to have a new hauler. I had other ideas. Filled out application for weights on small trucks/autos. Day came to get that license. Told dad not to bother getting the old 2-ton out. He said not a word. I didn't care for the "sticks" and thought I had outsmarted him. Got my license. Rah! Within 24hrs. there was a pretty new Pickup sitting in the drive. I thought I was getting the car with automatic......WRONG!!!!! Not only did I have to drive that Pickup I got the luxury of hauling the younger siblings around too......"if you want to go". Years later, AH put me on the tractors to haul grain. Guess, HP knew best when my dad made me drive that manual. LOL Though AH had motorcycles, never took the time to show me how. I really dont think it would be that hard.
Well, my neighbor came by and looked at my car, a bolt on one of the pulleys came off... I don't know if that's all that's wrong with it... because it seems really screwed up, more so than the last time the belt came off... the problem steering, then my steering column is out of alignment, the battery light came on... *sigh* Well, he brought his trailer over, took my car back to his house, took me to the truck stop to get some cigs to last me over the next few days... I told him it's no rush... my roommate should be home in the next couple of days... and I've got sick chicks to take care of, I don't need to be going much of anywhere right now... I can get one of my neighbors to take me to a meeting tomorrow night probably at least if he's back from being out of town. but, other than that, until my roommate gets home, it's not likely I'll get to any meetings, we're way too far out of the way to get anyone to pick me up.
I was talking to my neighbor that's gonna work on my car, he's selling his little S10 pickup... he wants $3500 for it, well, with my car fixed, if I sell it, it's worth $2500 private party... so... I'd only need to come up with $1000 somehow... wondering if I could manage that... it's in better condition than my car, it actually has been totalled before, awhile back, he hit a deer, but considering he does body work, and he and his brother are mechanics... they fixed it all up like new, no problems with the truck... so... gonna see what I can figure out with that...
About the motorcycle, it's an automatic believe it or not lol which is why I wouldn't mind driving it... but, I don't really want to drive a motorcycle that much... I mean, it'd be good to run up to the gas station or something, and a trip out to my friend's farm on it on a nice day would be cool... (then I couldn't bring any more chicks home lol) but... don't want to have to pay to register and insure it, so it will probably just be for around the farm.
I've never driven a stick shift... My roommate says he's gonna teach me, but I don't really care to learn lol but... I will, so I can help out around here, he could've used me pulling logs and stuff when he was cutting down trees but I couldn't drive the stick shift. The car I wanted when I learned to drive was a stick shift, but my dad wouldn't let me get it, said there's enough to pay attention to while driving that he doesn't want me to have to deal with shifting gears and everything. lol It's probably better, because I had I think 3 wrecks within my first year of driving, with an automatic lol
Our neighbor brought some sheep over not long after I posted earlier, he pastures some here to eat the weeds and "mow" the grass lol So... I asked him about the chicks, he said he doesn't know much about chicks but could get their eyes open and get the puffer in. So I brought out a couple, and he showed me how to do it. There's 2 I'm sure aren't going to make it though. I just put some more puffer in their eyes, but they're really not doing good. Found another one that needed more puffer, and had poop stuck on his butt and I had to clean it off, he's doing better than those other 2, but I'm not counting on him making it either.
One of the sheep is a baby... and the neighbor said to expect another baby being born next week, and one the week after that!!! God, I need our camera here!! lol
Well, I need to get in the tub... grr... I was looking forward to getting a shower again at my friend's... but guess I'll settle for a bath.
Lost one chick... gonna lose another one too... he's drinking really good at least but won't eat, and can't stand up, he sits back on his butt and would probably fall over if I wasn't holding him. He was getting trampled in the cage, so I've kept him out wrapped up in my lap... giving him water every so often. At least he's still chirping... once they stop chirping they definitely won't make it. Went through the exact same thing with those guineas I lost, except that they didn't have this eye infection.
Still haven't gotten in the tub... headed there now... gonna put the chick in the bathroom with me... he'll stay warm in there at least... just gotta lock the cat outta the bathroom... she usually takes baths with us lol
