This is kinda neat... see the huge 100 year old oak laying on the ground in front of my buddies house? This fell on a perfectly clear day, not even a breeze... just BOOM. Missed the house literally by inches.
The closet branch actually fell right on the front porch, and ended up HERE... Resting in the arms of this little porcelain angel, not even leaving a scratch.

OK, that's just wild about missing the house by inches and landing in the lap of an angel. I'd be worried about some sort of parasite infestation, 'though. Otherwise there would be no reason for it to fall on a still day. Is your buddy having it checked out. I'm just concerned about his house. If his tree has wood eating bugs, maybe his home does too? --Don't mean to be a downer, I live where termites, bees, and wasps love to eat our homes up; there's virtually no winter here.
Actually the only bugs was a HUGE bees nest in the trunk... had to have a pumper trunk blast it with poisen before city workers could start cutting it up. If you look close, youll see the trunk of the tree is hollow all the way through. All the big old trees on this road have been removed because they were in that condition. What caused it I dont know. But it sure is a pitty. This was the last one, and I guess it just didnt want to be cut down.
