I know my friend needs to decide on his own to quit drinking but are there any books that maybe someone could recommend? Something to motivate him a little. He won't attend meetings right now so maybe something in the meantime.
Gotta tell ya that I was pretty inspired by the movie, "My Name is Bill W." starring James Woods, Jo Beth Williams, and James Garner. You don't even have to tell your friend that the movie is meant for him. Just tell him that it is a REALLY good movie (which it is!).
Even my little co-dependant was affected by it. I think it opened her eyes a little to the makeup of an alcoholic.
(My favorite line in the whole movie is by James Woods <in the roll of Bill W> when he is trying to explain to his wife what he is feeling/thinking, and he says, "I know it sounds crazy, but the one thing I want more than anything else right now, is another drink."
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm just looking for something to help them feel like we are on their side. Something to break the silence about the issue. Not many of their other friends really know the extent of it. I want to keep my distance but also let my friend know that she can talk to us.
