Hi mels, I'm Dan, an alcoholic living in the Dakota's.

I don't know what type of support groups you have in your area, but you can find a lot of resources by visiting AA's website.
http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/?Media=PlayFlash

There may also be free (or at least cheap)medical support resources available to you through your state or local government.  Try to find a local AA meeting (the AA website can help) and see if they can offer some info.

Hi Mels,

I'm Carol, an alcoholic living in UK. Welcome to MIP. I hope you stay around this board as there is some good help and info available here.

You could always try calling your local AA helpline and chatting with the person who answers. They are very helpful and, if you are honest with them, will be able to give you some advice based on their own experience. And, there is always a lot of help at AA meetings, too. It would be good if you could find one in your area.

Please let us know how things go for you, won't you?

Take care,

Carol

Hi Mels, I am Roderick. I am an alcoholic. I don't know which country you are in but here is a link to a page that will find AA meetings in the US.
http://alcoholism.about.com/od/meetaa/AA_Meetings.htm
I suggest going to a meeting tonight or as soon as possible. If you are afraid of detoxing, tell them at the meeting and you will be helped.
AA saved my liife.
Regards, Roderick
