I'm thinking desperate cry for help. He could have just pulled a no show and got a bench warrant, but instead he shows up drunk. Well.... desperate cry for help or standard alcoholic thinking. Okay- never mind.

I might have done that not so very long ago.  Sounds like someone who can't stand to face life sober, no matter the consequences.  Like I was.

I think I know what you mean though, like the ones that never stop/and or recover.  I've known one of those before, my Dad. 

I believe this is why they call AA the life or death program, because it saves lives.   If you don't find recovery or quite you die from the disease.
