There is some great info here I found some a little while ago I that I didn't even know I needed. I was craving something I was very antsy, I couldn't decide if it was a liquor craving or even a cigarette craving ( I quit those a couple months ago) or what. Its a rainy saturday where I'm at so I was reading post from the second page when I came across a post where some old timeres advised a newcomer to drink fruuit juice and eat chocolates because the body will crave carbs. I said YES thats what I need so a quick trip to the store and after a glass of apple juice and a handful of chocolate stars I feel worlds better. Thought I'd post this to say thanks and in case someone else needs the same advice.

Just a little suggestion from me. If you can see a doctor, see one. I hear this one old geezer (in my HG) tell others to drink grape soda and eat M&M's. I say 'bad advice' a high number of alcoholics sometimes have diabetes and don't know it.....I personaly suffered from NO potassium. It got better when I got sober, but still have trouble 'retaining' it - today I have to take supplements.....It takes a good while for the body & mind to get in sync without alcohol. Rule of thumb in my neck of the woods, one month for every year you drank. Just something to keep in mind. I care!

any excuse to eat chocolates is good enough for me!! haha... The first 2 or 3 weeks after I quit drinking I craved OJ - the kind with lots of pulp in it! Maybe that explains it! I was finding myself running out of OJ at 3am and going to the store - it was pretty bad! but hey... beats alcohol! It was just pretty weird since I never drank OJ on a regular basis! I do find myself eating lots of fruit now. I use to make fun of my parents for going apple picking and blueberry picking (since I am only 24 it wasn't that long ago!)... now I can't wait to find out where and when to go!... although I am a little bit hesitant on asking them because they will do the whole "i told you so" thing! haha

The old timers here in Boston would recommend that if you felt like drinking head to an ice cream parlor. Then order a large milkshake or frapppe - any flavor. Drink it. If you still felt like drinking order another. They assured me I woudn't want to drink anything after that. I didn't need to be told twice.. I was off to Friendly's Ice Cream every day. Can't do that now, however... I'm diabetic - AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH. However, there is a solution - Seven -Eleven now has Crystal Light Slurpees - YEAH!!! Mike in Boston
I go through cravings of juices with Vitamin C, big time. I keep a jug of lime aid in my fridge at all times. A big glass of Simple Lime Aid, and I can feel myself unwind. I pucker up, but that's okay. It really does the trick for me..Chris
