Attachment. Because for so long, that is what we knew, eh? Attachment to angers, fears, suspicions. While "out there" those were the things that made me feel alive. Letting go, release, of all those things, because we don't recognise them right away after sobering up, can be so difficult, but it really is the only way for peace to gain a foothold. Our attachments to not only the emotions that dictated our lives, but attachments to people, to stuff. For me, I struggled with letting the peace in because the chaos was all that I knew.
Attributed to Mikao Usui, founder of Reiki, are these seven principles for living. Simple when you read them, hard to continually practice:
Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings. Just for today I will not worry. Just for today I will not be angry. Just for today I will do my work honestly. Just for today I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.
