Restoring my sanity again.......

Well, reading Sarah L. made me look at my med taking........

I have been taking meds for chronic shoulder pain, which I exaggerated at times and my doc. prescribed pain meds.

Got sober from booze 2005, I haven't drunk booze since.

But, I have been abusing the mood altering of the pain meds even when I'm not in serious pain.......

Maybe NA is where I should go......but AA is where it worked for me before.

Thanks for reading........

You could....but if you didn't put the program above the desire to catch a buzz while being a member of AA, why would that change by becoming a member of NA?

The problem isn't the group you belong to.

Have you ruled out that you may be a functioning pill popper?

Very honest of you Pablo. I admire your courage in making the admission. It sounds like something that has been bothering you for a while. I have seen quite a few AA members in the same boat as you, finally getting honest with themselves. Personally I was a smoker for a long time in sobriety. Until I quit I had no idea what a spiritual barrier that can be. It stopped me ever dealing with my anger. When I stopped the smokes, the anger came out, had to be dealt with (very painful drawn our process) and my life and relationship with my higher power iimproved out of site.

I don't think I or you need a differnt fellowship. The solution is not the fellowship, it is a relationship with the God of my understanding which has become possible through the program. If you could have an honest talk with your doctor and use the meds as prescribed to treat the shoulder pain, and use the program of AA to deal with the pain of living, you can still have a pretty wonderful life.

Everyone that comes to AA gets to experience the spirit of the fellowship, but most don't make it into the Fellowship of the Spirit. The door is open for you, just walk through.
