It is important for us to remember that any member of AA keep the anonymity of fellow AA'ers as well as be sensitive to what could be construed as membership in AA. No one has the right to post any photo of anyone else without their permission.

Yes it does. Tanin, you are really big about quoting things from AA literature. It floors me that you are making excuses for using someone else's pic on this site without their permission and getting hysterical yourself about "censorship". Since you posted to my post and the other one again and, obviously haven't "moved on" yourself and are going to persist in saying that it is ok to post pics of others here and that it is not breaking any of AA's Traditions, than I will continue...

Tanin, I am curious...suppose there is a picture of you floating out there on the internet somewhere. You as what you really look like...not as a cartoon pickle with black glasses. Someone who is bored posts a pic of you on, let's say, a Sex Addicts' forum and has "This person was in a meeting....etc.," under a big picture of you. You or someone who knows you just happened to see your pic and tell you about it. Would you be alright with that? Sure, this is a big world and the chances of you or someone you know happening upon this site may be slim, however, the possibility does exist. Would you then be okay with the same "no censorship" standards you talk all about on this same site???? If it happened to you (or someone you know) would you be able to deal with it in the same non "hysterical" manner you exhibit when it happens to someone you don't know??? Maybe you could. I certainly could not. You have not seen me hysterical, Mr. Pickle. That happens to me and all h*** would break loose! And, by the way, any picture on the internet is copyrighted. One is not supposed to use pictures as they want unless it is specified that they are "copyright free" or "fair use". Now, I do not really care to get into all of the "fair use" thingies about images. I'm not a copyright attorney...are you??? You are a smart guy (or girl---I don't know if any of us really know that about you, although you seem to be really inquisitive about us on this board). There is plenty online you can look up about it. From what I read it is possible that "fair use" could be argued in this case; however, as long as the image is being used in the manner it was intended to be used for. And a fee is sometimes charged for that use. Here is something interesting..

"When it comes to photos, when in doubt, assume its subject to copyright and dont use it without the appropriate permission. What it comes down to is that if you need to use another persons image, make sure it fits clearly into one of the protected purposes or seek legal counsel if there is a significant investment of money or time in your project.

Fair use may be an exception allowing you to use copyrighted images, but chances are youll be in for a discussion or possibly find your site taken down by your host if the copyright holder disagrees. Unfortunately, there are no significant cases that establish hard-and-fast rules when it comes to fair use and images used on the Internet."

I don't think the owner of this site should have to deal with the possibility of any repercussions if in fact the image is being used without the owner's consent. If the OP owns the rights to the photo then God Bless him or her. Most of all, we should all thank the servicemen and women in our country, some of which have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Gee, all of these theories...and legalities...and concepts...and scenarios ... and argumentationss....and potential repercussions....

LTR, are you sure that all of your arguments and complexities are even relevant? They all seem to be driven by your desire to make something out of nothing....

Repercussions!  LOL.

No need for legalities & copyrights etc - PLEASE just refer to the Traditions. We need to show love, caring & compassion to all newcomers and respect whatever level of anonymity they choose. We can't play with peoples lives !!! XXX

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

And have I been back & forthing all this time with a gal????? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin Don't know why I have assumed that someone who used a pickle as an avatar just had to be a man. LOL. (And don't you men who have made lewd comments about it feel silly now?) However, now that I think about it a bit, maybe the pickle is appropriate in either case. Now, excuse me as I have to go and wash out my eyes from reading Baba's post.

LTR aka "Poor Queen Baby" and aka, "Alcoholic Toddler"

(I'm starting to like that name Tanin gave me. I laughed almost as hard as I did after reading Baba's post above.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin)
