A group of home owners in Colorado are trying to block a treatment facility from opening because they don't want "those people" in their neighborhood. Please vote in support of the plan. If anyone wants to come to the hearing in Vail, CO in a few weeks and talk about their own recovery and help us overcome the folks discriminating against us please email info@ccgmgmt.com

do you think of the plan to turn the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera into an addiction treatment facility?

(1st Choice) I support it   - Link to Poll Below

I think treatment centers are vital for all areas. I would be surprised if anyone's vote not living in that area would have any influence on the final decision. I do have to question the profit motive involved.....$60,000 per month for treatment/which is more money than most people make in a year; average salary for employees would be $100,000. It looks more like a Disneyland for wealthy addicts. What about the treatment program itself???? I may have overlooked it, but there is nothing that addresses that in the article I found. The fact that they say that people would want to stay there because it would be "completely anonymous".....well, that should be the case for any treatment center. Would all employees there have to keep a "vow of secrecy"??? Whatever the case, addicts should not have to pay extra for anonymity and I don't believe people should get rich from addicts and trying to help them. Another thing is that it would eliminate those addicts who really need treatment, have been on waiting lists to get into one, and do not have the financial means to stay at such a place as the one proposed in your post. I could never vote for this even if my vote would "count".

....maybe contact Robin Leach and see if you can get his vote.

Oh, and I'll just bet that that some of the ones referring to addicts as "those people" are addicts themselves.

I'm at odds here on whether to delete this 'AD' for support for an 'Addiction Center' that we know very little about ... AND, I fully support our 6th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Traditions ... which states:

Six--An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance or lend the A.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise; lest problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

Ten--Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the A.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy.

Eleven--Our public relations policy is based upon attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films.

Twelve--Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

Anyone wish to comment here??? ... should this be deleted or should it remain ... I'm open to your suggestions ...

Pappy

Hey that is right...forgot all about that.
I will let you others help with that request as I am trying to keep my anxiety level down as much as possible and you absolutely have to do that with what your are going through, Pappy.

Hi Pappy,

Well, technically, this discussion forum isn't an AA group so technically the 12 traditions don't apply to this.

And technically, the OP isn't an ad, it's an appeal for people to take an action on a civic matter.

But it seems really misplaced since this forum is populated by people from all over the place, and it's likely that NONE of them are eligible to vote on measures in the city of Vail, CO.

I would suggest leave it for now, but if it starts turning into a sh*t storm of controversy, well, that would illustrate why AA has those traditions, and it could be deleted then.

I agree with each of Dave's points.

The post is vague and misplaced. But it does no harm to this here discussion group. Censoring it means someone has to assume authority to govern. And to judge the person's motive and validity.

I can't think of too many things more fraught than giving an alcoholic (or a group of alcoholics) the authority to judge and censor someone else.

Why not just let it be? Why not just let it pass?

If anyone's anxiety level is really being raised by the OP, I can think of a particular spiritual axiom that should apply.

I agree with the comments posted. All be it I am 10000 light years away(well, Australia) and could not attend any such actions, politics is certainly something to be careful of until all facts are there to see.
