Just wanted to check in with MIP and let you know that I have made it to my 1st year anniversary.  I went to a meeting pretty much daily for this first year, which is just want this alcoholic has needed.  There were plenty of ups and downs, but through everything, i was able to not pick up a drink or substitute to deal with life.  I have had, and still have plenty of thoughts of drinking, today I don't like to sit with those thoughts for too long as I have done in the past.  Life's pretty good today, and one hell of a lot better than it was a year ago.

So I had made up my mind that I was going to quit smoking on my year anniversary, I had bought 2 cartons of cigs when I was home and got them cheap at a reservation which I thought at the time should get me to about my year anniversary, maybe a little short.  Anyways, the timing was perfect and after going to my meeting the night before my anniversary, I stood on my deck and had my last cig looking up at the stars and saying goodbye to my other friend.  So if the timing of running out just when I needed to wasn't enough, I became so sick the next day.  So even if I wanted to give up on quitting, I was too sick.  That lasted a few days, now I am on day 3 of not smoking and feeling much better.  My higher power had some part in that I am pretty sure.  I did have to miss a meeting on my anniversary though, but i will be celebrating at my home group tomorrow.  I like dates I can remember, my sobriety date is 11/12/13, and no smoking date so far is 11/12/14.  And just for kicks, my wedding anniversary is 07/07/07.

Thank you all for being here.

Thanks for sharing your anniversary, D. Good work. Keep it up.

Also, best wishes on quitting the smokes. That's a big one too.

Happy Birthday Dustin, ... Congrats on sticking with it ...

And I find those dates extremely interesting ... wish I had your determination to quit smoking though ... 2 or 3 years ago the wife said if I didn't quite, I have to start making my own ... well, guess what, that's exactly what I did, LOL ... long story ... long learning curve on doing it right with the right equipment ... it's still a bit of a hassle but it does cost much less ... I probably shouldn't have said that!!! ... cause it's making it that much harder for me to commit to quitting ...

Thanks for being an inspiration to us all, and God Bless,

Pappy

Remembering those dates is like "keeping it simple" which always works wonders for me.   Congratulations on your anniversary and spiritual support on your attempts at being smoke free.  That one was harder for me and I relapsed several times each one sicker than the one before and similar to my drinking habit...I just couldn't get enough of the mind and mood altering chemicals until I was done...willingly done.  Keep coming back and sharing the journey.   smile

A big congratulations to you, Dustin!  Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us.  Hope it continues to go well.  How's it going with the Steps?  Making progress?  The further I got in the Steps, I found that those drinking thoughts were going away.

Blessings, Mike D.

Congratulations! I rescheduled the first weekend choice for my marriage because I found out the date was 06/06/06!!! So I had to change it to a month earlier to still get the venue I wanted. Now I can never remember the darn thing... is it 5/6/06 maybe or 5/5/06. Should a left it... not superstitious anyway but dang....lol

Wow Tash, ... If I were to realize such an important date was going to turn out 6-6-6 ... believe I'd have changed that too ... No, I'm not superstitious either, but still ... the Mark of the Devil, ??? ... ... ...

Thank you everyone for the well wishes.  I am truly grateful for my sobriety today, it gets so much better when we finally give up the fight.  Celebrating my anniversary on Saturday at my home group, i've invited my wife to hear me speak, at the advice of my sponsor... i cannot say i'm looking forward to that part, but she was along for most of the ride anyways.  Day 7 not smoking, one day at a time seems to be working for this as well!

Blessing,

D
