Anyone have any advice on how to find a rental with bad credit without having to go to some slumlord. This divorce destroyed it since the wife noooo work. Short of righting a letter explaining my situation anyone face this situation?

Never been in that situation myself, BUT, if it were me, think I'd attend all the area AA group meetings I could and work the group(members) after the meeting to see if anyone had some place to rent ... even if only temporary ... I've seen others do it ... and succeed in finding a place to stay for a while ... a lot depends on how much 'sober time' one has and what kind of Guy/Gal they come across being ... renting to an alcoholic is always risky business ...

Well let's see... I was just served with an eviction notice and just thought I'd stop in after taking a break from craigslist...

I have no credit - zero nada zilch. Doesn't even show up when they do a search. I'd think no credit would be okay but to most people it just means I'm a shady, underworld character.

My wife is on parole after serving twenty-four years for aggravated murder.

I'm disabled and have a service dog. I called six 'no pet' rentals yesterday (and a few dozen pet's accepted places). Every single one of them started out by saying the place was still available - and every single one of them suddenly remembered it was just rented after I told them I had a service dog.

Thing is though, I've got a rockin' agent who will make sure I get the perfect place. Give 'em a call...he'll hook you up.

Go ahead Pap, tell him who it is. ;)

You can always place a card on a bulletin board where your meetings are held...A couple different places you attend. Say what you are looking for. I see people here do that all the time. And ask that rockin' agent that Angell is talking about for help.....That always works. Hang in there Enigma.....Chin up!

You might also try and announce it during the "non-AA announcements" portion of meetings. Depending on the space, a sober roommate might not be bad for you. I rented an attic apartment in someone's house once in Arlington, VA...was really nice....and affordable....separate entrance...private...

Some good suggestions Enigma!  I've seen it over and over again.  If we pray, then move our feet(action), God will deliver.  I would suggest just that- pray and then use the suggestions above.  smile

Yep, I know your 'agent' very well ... ... ... and over the years you and I both have wondered just how the heck can this work out ... and when we turned things over to our 'agent', He always delivered ... maybe not on our time schedule, but the results have been nothing short of amazing ... Mike B said it already, connect with the 'Big Guy' upstairs and things will all work out for the best ... oh, and a little faith will go a long way ... Angell has been in near impossible situations under nearly impossible odds over the years, but he has never complained, knowing that God would see to it he had what he needed ... we've learned a lot from each other ... and that is how this thing here works ...
