I was just thinking about a meeting we put on in detox about a year ago. Some of our group members were relatively early in recovery but they were eager to do service so I asked them to tag along. They were a bit worried that they might be asked to speak and I said don't worry, I'm the member with the longest sobriety. I'll be the speaker. You guys can just shake some hands and do the readings and so they agreed. One thing I had learned from my sponsor was if I drew a line in the sand, he would find a way to make me cross it. At the meeting, I explained that I wasn't feeling a hundred percent and perhaps we could have a discussion meeting instead of a speaker meeting. Everyone agreed so I turned to my fellow group members and asked them to share. They gave me that but-I-thought-you-said look. They all shared and it was a powerful meeting. Two of them had been in detox only a month previous. One of the other things I learned from my sponsor is I don't know which person in the room has the story the newcomer needs to hear. So sometimes its better to let God decide.
